In "Afro Odyssey" Robb merges old funk and soul, new rhythmic syncopation, vintage strings, horns and jazzy vocals.
The album is mostly produced and sung by Robb himself, he also works with a lot of great musicians like Josh Roseman, Jay Rodriguez and Jonathan Maron, as well with Roy Ayers´ rhythm section to create a timeless album. Robb names James Mason, Donald Byrd, Patrice Rushen, Roy Ayers, Teena Marie and Rufus & Chaka Khan as strong influences, amongst countless others. Although love is a main theme, Robb Scott´s music is also political and deals with current and past politics. "Understanding", "Return to Earth" or "Anything you like" are a few examples of Robb's political world. Take a trip to Cuba with "Baracoa de Cuba" featuring the vocal talent of Prince and Teena Marie's back-up vocalist, Jill Jones. Hit the dance floor with the great "Revolution" feat. Theasha Faison. Robb also had the honor to work with the legendary blues guitarist and vocalist, Ellen McIlwaine on "Reflections".
It's all there, a wonderful and timeless album, and furthermore, the vinyl version includes two bonus tracks! Of course "Afro Odyssey" will be accompanied by some serious 12" vinyl-business feat. The remix and production talents of Blackbeard, Reel People, Tony Nawachukwu, Jaymes Nylon and Kid Sublime.
